A thorough roof inspection during the spring is always recommended to ensure its protection and to avoid complications in future. The roof of your home provides protection from the elements. Sleet, snow, freezing rain and wind can be harsh on your roof during the winter months. Even here in Oklahoma where we escaped severe winter weather, it’s always a good idea to give your roof an inspection now that spring is around the corner. So, how do you know whether the winter weather was damaging to your roof? Here’s a quick roof inspection checklist from us here at Billings Roofing & Solar. We are your local Tulsa roofer and we would be happy to stop by and complete this checklist for you. Give us a call today!
Spring Roofing Checklist:
-Clean the gutters. If gutters are clogged it may cause water overflowing which affect the foundation of the house.
-From your attic, inspect the underside of your roof deck for dark spots or dampness. These will be a great indicator of any leaks.
-Inspect your attic insulation for high moisture content. High moisture can mean poor ventilation, and it is damaging the effectiveness of your insulation.
-Look for shingles that have lifted up. These shingles will likely not seal back down and return to their intended level of protection.
-If you had actual ice dams on your roof, whether you experienced leaks or not, the shingles have sustained some damage. If you did have leaks, then the damage likely needs to be addressed. Ice dams are caused by inadequate attic ventilation and insulation, roof geometry, weather conditions and air leaks from the living space to the attic.
